EYE provides NOCs with detailed and accurate picture of actual utilization of monitored network components. Network devices traditionally report CPU statistics, utilization of installed memory and buffers and other metrics that when combined, provide a good picture of the total load of the device. Similarly, every monitored port can provide a wealth of information about its performance, including traffic rates, speed, error and discard rates for both inbound and outbound traffic.
EYE monitors these metrics for all devices in regular time intervals (typically five minute samples for ordinary objects and minute or sub-minute samples for high important ports), stores them for historical reporting, compares them with what is considered normal behavior (either static thresholds or self-updating dynamic baselines), raises alerts when abnormalities are detected and lets users visualize and report on the data in rich interactive UIs and reports.
EYE also implements additional technologies like IP SLA and QoS to provide high level picture of performance of larger network segments and not just its individual parts.
Key capabilities
- Continuous monitoring of all available performance metrics for devices and ports, with storage of infinite history
- Direct visualization in the UIs with interactive UI charts with analytical and correlation capabilities
- Multi-speed monitoring with fast polling for high importance ports
- Threshold and baseline based detection of unexpected high load and traffic rates
- Long term trend spotting reports for capacity planning
Benefits
- Understanding of up-to-date performance of network components
- Simple and effective troubleshooting
- Early detection of problems before they turn into major outages
- Automated base lines do not require user interaction to differentiate between standard and irregular behavior
- Effective capacity planning
Visualization and analytics
One of key advantages of EYE is the effectiveness with with operators can access, evaluate and decide on data. All the performance data streams can be easily analysed and correlated in interactive charts and rich reports. Users can easily build their own custom reports with built-in rich analytics capabilities, literally with just a few mouse clicks. Charts, reports and performance oriented dashboards can also be combined into custom dashboards that allow users group together the most important data into a single pane of glass, either for continuous observation of network behavior or for instant troubleshooting.
IP SLA
Cisco IP SLA technology allows operators deploy probes to Cisco network hardware that simulate typical transactions between two points in a network. IP SLA technology thus allows organizations understand latency and performance of point-to-point links. EYE can either discover and monitor performance of existing probes, or, with a simple to use wizards, operators can deploy new probes easily directly from its UIS. EYE supports a wide range of probes, including ICMP Echo, HTTP Raw, UDP Jitter VoIP, DHCP and more.
