ENTUITY EYE OF THE STORM RECEIVES TOP MARKS AT CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY LONG BEACH

Integrated Network Management Solution Selected for Best-in-Class Functionality, Ease of Deployment and Use, Time to Value

NEW YORK, NY & LONDON, UK – March 14, 2005 – Entuity Inc.T, the developer of the Eye of the StormT (EYE) integrated network management solution, today announced the California State University Long Beach campus has concluded a detailed multi-vendor evaluation for network management technology, and has selected EYE to replace its previous-generation solutions to support and manage a $21 million network upgrade.

With a student population of over 34,000, California State University's Long Beach campus (CSULB) is the largest enrolled university in the 23 campus system, and is the second largest university in California. CSULB provides free Internet services to all students, faculty, and staff - including email, personal web space, dial-up PPP access, on-line courses, wireless access, and full Ethernet access to the University network backbone. The multi-vendor hardware network is comprised of more than 25,000 objects, including three-dozen routers, 275 switches, and 20,000 ports.

"This network upgrade is complex, and we needed software we knew would enable us to smoothly migrate 6,000 customers to a new network with no downtime or performance degradation," said Steve La, Director of Network Services for CSU Long Beach. "Our selection criteria focused on a dozen key attributes for a network management solution," La continued. "After many exhaustive software product evaluations, we concluded Eye of the Storm was the best solution for three reasons. First, it was a single, integrated product that provided all three functional disciplines necessary: resource and inventory management, fault management and network availability, and performance management. Second, EYE was extremely easy to learn and deploy, and third, Eye of the Storm was by far the most cost effective solution for an enterprise class management suite."

CSULB has already realized many benefits of the recent Eye of the Storm selection, including:

  • Trouble shooting time reduced by 70% versus previous solutions
  • Administrator "time to proficiency" of only two weeks, versus more than 1 year with previous applications
  • New user training time now measured in hours, versus weeks with previously installed point solutions
  • Time to deploy reduced to two weeks, versus months with other solutions
  • Time and cost to maintain management software has been reduced by two-thirds, compared to resources and time required for the outgoing solutions
  • Greater network awareness and knowledge, through automatic generation of almost a dozen reports previously impossible to generate, such as "top talkers" and port usage
  • Informed, improved capacity planning, for hardware purchases (or redeployments), based on actual usage and performance

"Based on my 15 years of experience in deploying and managing enterprise-level network management software from a variety of small and large vendors, EYE has been the easiest deployment of all," La added. "In fact, we have been able to implement a distributed management process for the first time, with local users running EYE and generating reports, and these users are not network engineers. The software is that easy to learn and use - we did in-house cross-training in a morning."
