Network Performance Management with Cisco IOS IP SLA
An important part of Eye of the Storm's network performance management solution is its implementation of Cisco's IOS IP SLA - formerly known as Cisco Service Assurance Agent (SAA).
Eye of the Storm (EYE) allows you to leverage your investment in Cisco IOS, using IP SLA to collect real-time network performance information, for example response time, one-way latency, jitter, packet loss and web site download time. IP SLA also provides the mechanism to monitor per-class traffic over the same link.
Using IP SLA for Service Assurance Measurement
IP SLA is a true agentless technology that provides end-to-end monitoring of your infrastructure. Many of the popular Cisco devices are instrumented with the built-in IP SLA performance agent.
EYE currently offers integration with these IP SLA probes: Echo, UDP, TCP, HTTP, DNS, Jitter, and DHCP. As a result EYE can, for example, measure end-to-end availability, latency and jitter between any two points across the network. Probes can be configured to highlight unacceptable levels of performance that might affect sensitive applications such as VoIP and real-time video streaming.
The EYE IP SLA module includes:
- Support for various IP SLA probe types.
- Discovery of supported probes on each router.
- Control of both probe specification and automatic probe creation.
- Automatic discovery of IP Paired Links.
- Number of probes per IP link only limited by the capability of the device on which the probe is set.
- Unlimited number of probes per EEP.
- Creation of End-to-End Paths (EEP) useful for aggregation of per-hop statistics for complete end-to-end monitoring.
